ALCESTER Town clinched their place in the League Cup Final this week following a 2-0 win over a Coventrians side who were reduced to nine men in the first half.

That was after Alcester had carved out a string of openings before Coventrians went down to 10 men.

Alcester soon took advantage as Keiran Downey netted from a corner 10 minutes later.

Coventrians then found themselves down to nine after one of their players lashed out at Will Beach, who had been a constant threat.

Alcester struggled to breakdown a massed Coventrians defence in the second half and then held their breath as goalkeeper Alex Gretton had to come off his line and take down Coventrians' Connolly, but the referee ruled he had played the ball first.

Victory was finally secured when Courtney Sowe finished off a fine move by Lewis Marston.

Alcester boss Danny Janes admitted: "I have to be honest and say that the game was awful and I felt sorry for anyone who came to watch.

"Our decision making and quality on the ball wasn't good enough and it was frustrating after we'd worked so hard in training.

"The two players who got sent off for Coventrians let their club down and have been selfish by lashing out. If it had been one of my players, I would have been furious."

Alcester return to Midland League Division Three football this Saturday when they entertain AFC Solihull.
