BOSS Tim Harris was delighted after his side chalked up a magnificent seven to bring his first win since taking the Redditch United hotseat.

The Reds put Farnborough to the sword with a 7-1 success at the Trico Stadium last Saturday.

New striker Stuart Fleetwood, who arrived from Merthyr Town, smashed home four to add to goals from Cheltenham loanee Adam Page, Marcel Simpson and full-back Lewis Wright.

It was only United's second win in 14 games but the first since Harris took over from Darren Byfield before Boxing Day.

He said: "It's not often that you win 7-1 so, from that point of view, I'm delighted.

"It's been a difficult time for everyone at the club so we're pleased to put some smiles on faces.

"That said, we won't be getting carried away because there is still work to be done.

"The recent run shows that there was clearly a problem.

"I told the players that I can't change what has happened in the past but can change the future. It was up to them to decide if they want to stay and be apart of the club but I only want players that want to be here.

"Those that chose to stay have shown great character and I'm pleased with how it is going. Confidence is clearly an issue after such a poor run but hopefully we can start to put that right."

Reds are due to face Cinderford Town in the Challenge Cup on Tuesday night before going to Dorchester Town this Saturday as they look to build some momentum.

As well as the recent arrivals of Fleetwood, Page, Edji Mbunga and Myles Phipps, Harris has also bolstered his defence with Louis Ezewele.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bristol Rovers prospect, who turns 21 this month, arrives from Tamworth on an 18-month contract.

Harris said he was delighted to attract such a high-calibre player to Redditch and believes Ezewele will make a good impression.

He said: "Louis is someone I was keen to sign at a previous club but, unfortunately, the move didn’t come to fruition. He boasts some excellent attributes, and, excitingly, at only 20 there is plenty of potential to unlock.

“Injuries haven’t been kind to him, so he hasn’t played as many matches as he would like, but he went out on loan to gain match fitness, and he is keen to make a fresh start, showcase his talent and work hard for the team. I am delighted to have gained his signature.”
