Redditch United 4 Frome Town 1

REDDITCH United opened the floodgates to flush away Frome Town and their recent barren spell in the Southern League.

Returning midfielder Ashley Sammons and Dior Angus scored carbon copy goals within two minutes of each other midway through the first half with Orrin Pendley and Kevin Monteiro wrapping up the points within six minutes of the restart.

United wasted chances to go further in front but briefly lived dangerously after Mitchell Page got one back with 25 minutes to go.

Redditch started knocking on the door after a comfortable enough start with Nathan Fox afforded far too much licence down the left to cross for Angus and Sammons who were both stopped from shooting at close quarters.

Frome did not heed the warning and paid the price in the 21st minute when Fox drilled in for Sammons to guide low inside the far post with a cushioned finish on the run.

And Fox was released again two minutes later with Angus on the spot to crash past hopelessly-exposed keeper Nick Evans.

Andi Thanoj started the move that saw him caress just beyond the far post before Angus had a penalty shout waved away and Sammons missed an open goal from 10 yards after Thanoj had caught Ben Morgan in possession.

Another Sammons cannon was almost too hot for Evans to handle, although Page might have pinched one back for Frome from a swirling Jon Davies centre.

It was all over when captain Danny Jackman’s ball to the far post was lashed back across goal and high inside the far post from a seemingly-impossible angle by Pendley four minutes after the break.

There was an element of fortune to the fourth as a threaded pass was diverted off Davies, playing onside Monteiro to slot under the advancing Evans.

Monteiro should have scored again when clean through but had his eight-yard effort deflected wide and Redditch’s clean sheet went up in smoke shortly after.

Davies, Frome’s only credible performer on the night, forced an awkward stop from Ethan Ross and Page thundered in via a far-post knock down from the corner.

Davies was again left free to curl a fraction wide with Ross beaten and substitute Ollie Knight’s low cross had hearts in mouths before Redditch regained their composure.
