DARREN Byfield has called on his Redditch United players to start sharing out the goals as they look to return to winning ways.

The Reds were knocked out of the FA Trophy following a 1-0 home defeat against Coalville Town last Saturday as their winless run extended to four games.

Goals have also dried up in recent weeks with United finding the back of the net just once in their last four contests.

The boss says he'll be working hard to find more goals from other areas of his team so they are less reliant of strikers Dior Angus and Spencer Weir Daly.

The forward duo have scored 25 goals between them already this term but midfielder Andi Thanoj is next in line with just three to his name.

Byfield said: "I was very disappointed against Coalville because we had enough chances to win the game.

"In the last few games we just haven't been putting the ball in the back of the net, it's as simple as that.

"I'm not concerned by it because we just need to make a tweak to get it right.

"It's time now that we start to share the goals around a little and make sure we're not always relying on Dior and Spencer to find the net.

"They have been great for us but we need others to chip in as well.

"It's a case of looking at myself and working with them because I think we already have the goals within the group. I've maybe let them play freely until now but I need to start drilling into them the need for us to fill the opposition box and get the balance right behind that.

"Everyone is playing well enough but we need to work on being more ruthless in both boxes. It's not a big issue, it's just a little tweak that we'll work hard on in training."

United are still waiting on the results of a scan on Vinny Mukendi's knee injury. The forward's absence and the lack of goals in recent games does mean Byfield is in the hunt for extra forward options.

Merthyr Town will visit the Trico Stadium this Saturday (3pm kick-off). The game will also feature an event to generate funds to sustain projects run by Redditch United, as it continues its aim of encouraging young people to stay away from anti-social behaviour and crime.

Between 10am and 12.30pm, members of the public can arrive at the stadium to receive a free car wash from individuals involved with the community project. Staff from Trico will also be on hand to perform a quick wiper blade safety check and free replacements if needed.
