STUDLEY'S stunning run of form has taken them back on top of Midland League Division One following a 2-0 success at Stafford Town.

Their cause was helped considerably after previous frontrunners Walsall Wood were held to a goalless draw at Nuneaton Griff.

That result leaves Studley a point clear at the top, although Walsall Wood do have a game in hand.

However, it wasn't all plain sailing at Stafford. There was a 70 minute stalemate when neither side looked like scoring.

But Studley raised their game in the closing stages to clinch the points courtesy of goals from Gareth Evans and new signing Karl King who has arrived at the Beehive from Highgate United.

It was King's introduction off the bench together with fellow substitutes Luke Dugmore and Josh Westwood that transformed the game.

Studley boss Keith Draper said: "In the first half, we were extremely poor and Stafford more than matched us at times and would probably feel hard done by with the final outcome.

"But we changed our style of play when Karl King came on. He's a big, powerful player and good in the air. That made a big difference."

The game was held up for 10 minutes after one of the Stafford players was knocked unconscious after feeling the full force of a Karl King free kick.

A concerned Draper added: "He tried to stop the ball with his head and went out like a light. He went down like a felled tree.

"He was just being stretchered off to hospital when we left the ground at 5.50pm with his neck in a brace.

"It was very worrying. He was only a young lad and everyone at Studley would like to wish him well . I've asked their manager to let us know how he is."

Studley entertain Bolehall Swifts this Saturday with Draper expected to make changes, especially with Andy Nicol back available after wedding duty.
