REDDITCH United boss Darren Byfield says he's keen to boost his side's goal threat.

The Reds continued to show promise once again with a 4-0 home victory over St Ives last Saturday but couldn't back it up when falling to a 1-0 loss at Hitchin Town on Monday night.

The weekend win saw Dior Angus, midfielder Andi Thanoj and Spencer Weir-Daley on the scoresheet again.

However, Byfield doesn't want his side to have to rely on the same goalscorers as the season draws on and is looking for other attacking options to compliment his current hitmen.

The recent departure of Danico Johnson to Bromsgrove Sporting and injury to Vinny Mukendi has also left the manager with only two strikers at his disposal.

He said: "I do want to bring in another goal threat because we only have two strikers at the moment.

"Vinny Mukendi will have a scan but it looks like a cruciate injury, so he could be out for some time.

"Nothing is imminent but we are looking. There isn't a great amount of strikers out there and everyone is trying to find one.

"It may be that we look to bringing in a goalscoring midfielder instead and look at sharing the goals around the team that way.

"We do want to improve the squad but I also need to make sure they are the right person for us. We have players that are really buying in to what we want to do here and any new additions have to do the same."

Byfield was disappointed not to take a point from their clash at Hitchin but was pleased with the work-rate of his side, adding: "We should have come away with a draw. We didn't do enough to win it but we should have taken a point.

"I told the players it would come down to a mistake or a moment of magic, and it was a mix of both for their winner. It was a great strike but we should still be doing better.

"The pleasing thing is that we gave it everything again. This team will continue to do that."

Byfield knows the area where his side can improve heading into the busy winter months.

"We have to start taking points from the teams in the top 10 now," he said. "We are within touching distance but need to pick up points when we face those sides near us in the league. Getting something against Kettering and Slough would have put us top. We are always looking to develop as a side and that is one area we can improve.

"Overall, I'm really pleased with the performance against Hitchin and we'll dust ourselves down and go again. I know this group has it in them to bounce back after a defeat."

Danny Jackman had to miss Monday's defeat but is available for this Saturday's trip to Dunstable Town.
