ALCESTER looked like a completely different side to the one which took a 60 points hammering from Harborne last week as they produced a well worked 23-12 win over Ledbury in Midlands Division Three West South.

Impressive Alcester were on the front foot from the word go and soon went 5-0 up when Phil Birks raced over unchallenged from 30 metres out after picking up at the base of a scrum.

Alcester continued to press with skipper Jack Horton being held up on the line before Ledbury lost their fly-half to a yellow card following a high tackle.

From the resulting penalty, Alcester turned down the chance to kick and instead went for the scrum. Two phases later Horton crashed over to increase his side's score.

Ledbury responded with a try from their first attack of the game.

Ledbury then lost another player to a yellow card and he was soon followed into the sin bin by Alcester's Jamie Harland.

But with the wind and slope in their favour, the momentum of the game altered as Ledbury took the lead following a catch and drive from a line-out to hold a 12-10 advantage at the break.

Alcester hit back right at the start of second half exchanges when Dan Marcus ran over half the length of the pitch to score.

Alex Chiles went close to scoring before Ben Hope did and then landed a penalty with Alcester' s only successful kick of the game.

Alcester now attempt to take this form into their next game at Manor Park on Saturday.

The seconds could only raise 12 players for their trip to Old Edwardians.

Luckily Edwardians lent them some players but they couldn't prevent themselves losing out 62-17.

The seconds entertain Leamington this Saturday in a cup fixture.
