TABLE toppers Studley lost interest in this season's FA Vase after losing out 2-0 against Hanley Town.

But Studley boss Keith Draper was far from downhearted with the result and insisted: "We played well. We couldn't have done anymore but score."

Studley simply couldn't convert their chances into goals. Chris Cowley was twice denied by Hanley's goalkeeper when clean through on goal.

Gareth Evans then had a goal disallowed for an alleged push, while Andy Nicol was denied a penalty when brought down from behind when through on goal.

Draper was adamant and said: "It was a clear cut penalty, but the referee claimed he went down too easily.

"Obviously I was disappointed with the result, but not the level of performance. Even their manager admitted we were unlucky."

It was Studley's second cup defeat of the week having earlier lost out in the Polymac Cup to Racing Club Warwick when they were beaten 2-1 in stoppage time.

Studley attempt to get back on track this Saturday with they entertain Heather St John in Midland League Division One.

Draper has boosted Studley's ranks by bringing in Highagte United central defender Luke English who was previously an ever present with Redditch Borough last term.

Draper confirmed: " I tried to sign him during the summer but he went to Alvechurch instead. When he couldn't get in Alvechurch's side, he went to Highgate, who have waived the seven days notice, for which I am grateful".

English was due to feature for Studley in this week's Worcester Senior Urn contest against Lye Town.

And Draper revealed there could be more signings to follow.
