STUDLEY footballers should have good cause to celebrate this Saturday.

They will be bidding to take maximum points from their opening Midland League Division One match at home to Coventry Copsewood.

Following the game, the players will then be off to toast striker Gareth Evans at his wedding reception.

Studley manager Keith Draper said: "We can't wait for both of them. Gareth is a very popular lad and the best present we can give him is three points."

Having fought a relegation battle for most of last season Draper is now determined to see his side challenging at the opposite end of the table this term.

He is currently working with a sizeable squad of 28 players but explained: "I need a big squad because eight or nine of the players work at Jaquar Land Rover where a great deal of shift work takes place.

"I fully understand at this level of football that work must come first - football is their release.

"We've recruited well this summer and our pre-season has been excellent.

"But we want to put down a benchmark on Saturday.

"I'm looking for a top six finish to make sure we qualify for next season's FA Cup. Anything else will be a bonus."

Apart from Gareth Evans, Studley will be without new signing from Bromsgrove Sporting Andy Nicol, who is unavailable for the Copsewood game.
