N.E.W Ravens faced Boston Buccaneers on Saturday with the fixture being switched to a home game on Wednesday after Boston had previously pulled out of a Ravens home fixture a few weeks before.

This gave Ravens a hand in picking up a few players who would of been unable to travel such a long journey with making it back for later work commitments.

Before the game started we all honored a minutes applause for the loss of a junior player in the Yorkshire league.

Ravens kicked off the game with only 12 players v 13 as we had a couple of last minute pull outs, but this never stops the Ravens from fighting hard no matter the numbers.

Boston played the overlap well getting in 3 tries in 13 minutes while Ravens were getting a feel for the pitch with just 12 lads.

But after defending hard Ravens hit back with a sneaky dummy opening the gap for David Wimbury to score close to the sticks allowing for an easy conversion also by himself.

It was neck and neck in the battle with Boston hitting back again but Captain Liam Dunne was not going to give up and drove hard over the line again converted by Wimbury.

No try for either team was going to be an easy run in with Boston sneaking over the line again on the wing, with Ravens kicking off after the conversion and completing an un expected cross bar challenge.

Ravens full back Alex Paynter was not going to let this first half get away from them and used his pace and step to get round the right channel and get a lovely clean try in just before the close of the first half also converted by Wimbury. Half time score 18-28 to Boston.

The second half started the same as the first with Boston getting in three tries followed by a driving try by Mark Austin again converted.

Ravens started to tire as Boston had a circulation of subs and were still playing a man up but Ravens felt positive on their performance this game and Captain Liam Dunne showed the team the once again never give up attitude with a try in the last minute in the centre of the sticks with the conversion ending the game.

Final score was 30-62 to Boston.

Ravens Director of Rugby Jason Spafford spoke after the game "Im really proud of the lads today we had a few playing through injuries and welcomed back Lee Knight from a long term sit out but the determination of the lads to all be back together was brilliant and really showed the Ravens spirit.

"Its been a hard season but the core of the team has grown further and stayed strong and I couldnt be prouder of their attitude and growing friendships on and off the pitch"
