MANAGER Julian Workman admitted to mixed emotions over Redditch Borough’s star attractions being monitored by higher-ranked clubs – but vowed not to alter his stance.

Goalkeeper Ryan Young and right-back Luke English have been among those to receive overtures with the potential to jump up to three levels on the back of a successful campaign.

Both played key roles in Borough’s late push for promotion at the first attempt from Midland League Division Two but while Workman will actively try to persuade them to stay, he acknowledged the inevitable lure of such interest.

“This is always a tricky time of year for us,” said Workman. “On one hand we are very flattered that teams far ahead of us are looking at the lads we have developed at Redditch Borough.

“That in itself is a huge compliment to all of the players and their progress, as well as the coaching staff and the club as a whole. For people to be looking towards us is a sign we are doing a lot right but of course, you never want to lose players.

“More important than retaining the squad is to maintain the family atmosphere that runs right throughout the club. Losing anyone, for whatever reason, is always that bit harder for us.

“We also believe that last season’s progress built the foundation to push on. We haven’t peaked yet and want these lads to keep pushing on together.

“There will be things for some of the lads to consider, though. It is not just the status that comes with moving up the ladder but the potential for financial rewards too.

“Our stance has always been the same and in this summer more than any other, I think it is important for us to stick to it.

“We will always try to persuade players to stay but will never stand in their way. Provided any that end up moving on do so in the right way, the door will always be open to them.”

The Midland Football League has announced five proposed changes to the Division Two line-up for the 2017-18 season. Pelsall Villa come down from Division One with NKF Burbage, Montpellier, Moors Academy and Northfield Town all promoted from Division Three.

They replace Paget Rangers, Alvis (both promoted), Sutton United (resigned), Leamington Hibernian and Continental Star (both relegated). Droitwich Spa had initially finished top but were pushed down to third following a three-point deduction. Last season's title was subsequently awarded to Paget.
