MANAGER Julian Workman urged his Redditch Borough charges to “go and get the success you deserve” ahead of their bid for double cup glory.

Borough take on Inkberrow in Thursday’s Evesham Hospital Junior Cup final at Evesham United before tackling league rivals Paget Rangers in the Les James Challenge Cup showpiece at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium on Tuesday (both 7.30pm).

Glory would round off a season of sizeable progress for the up-and-coming Midland Football League Division Two outfit, who came agonisingly close to a second straight promotion.

Borough would have finished second had it not been for a three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player against Paget on the opening day of the season.

In a quirk of fate, Rangers, who lost 3-2 and 5-2 to Borough in the league, secured second by beating Coton Green 2-1 last Wednesday.

Although Redditch ended the campaign fourth, Workman insisted he could not have asked for more from a squad that won 11 of its final 12 outings, netting a whopping 51 goals in the process.

And with the opportunity to secure silverware now on the agenda, the boss wants success for the sake of his players.

“Whatever happens, this has been a great season for Redditch Borough,” said Workman.

“The players have earned the right to gun for glory and our message to them is simple – go and get the success you deserve.

“Moving up a level, it has taken an extra layer of dedication to go from a good side to one that is now seen as one of the teams to beat at our level.

“Our record since the turn of the year speaks for itself but at the same time, we know that counts for nothing in cup competitions.

“This is our chance to create a bit of history and memories that will stay with the lads. You always remember winning things and we all want to finish on a high.

“We will be well supported with two full coaches going to Walsall. That shows we have a lot of people who care for this club so I hope the lads can do it for them too.”
