REDDITCH Rugby Club were involved in a rousing 34-34 draw with Claverdon to bring down the curtain on their Midland League Division Four South West campaign.

With Redditch choosing to make the short trip to Claverdon by coach, it appeared that some of the players were still on board as the hosts soon took control to build a 19-0 lead.

Redditch finally flickered into life when slick passing between Lewis Saddington and Barry Forester-Smith saw Mark Green cross for a try which Sam Gladwin converted.

The same pair combined again, but this time it was Will Ballion who crossed the line as Redditch clawed the score back to 19-12.

Claverdon then survived a blatant offside to secure a fourth try and led 26-12 at the break.

It got worse for Redditch when they were caught napping after a penalty decision went against them, Claverdon reacting quickly to add a further try.

Clearly rattled by the last two tries, Redditch appeared to throw caution to the wind and began to producing some punishing runs that proved too much for Claverdon.

Mark Green scored his second try before Harvey Hapgood outpaced Claverdon's cover to send Ballion over for another try.

The busy Ballion was then able to return a favour for Barry Forester-Smith to score, Gladwin's conversion levelled the scores.

With matters becoming tense, the final few minutes proved more restrained as both sides shared penalty kicks as the game was played out for a draw.
