EVESHAM HOSPITAL JUNIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL: Fairfield Villa 1 Redditch Borough 3.

CAPTAIN Jamie Hatfield led Redditch Borough to a second showpiece of the season with a double in Tuesday’s semi-final success at Fairfield.

Defender Hatfield nodded home the opener on 19 minutes before popular frontrunner Rob Bruce doubled the advantage with his first goal for the club.

Borough survived a scare early in the second half with Hatfield then showing a striker's touch to turn smartly and fire in from the edge of the box to seal their passage just past the hour.

Connor Collins scored a consolation for the hosts, converting a penalty a minute from the end, but Julian Workman’s men comfortably went through a day after Midland League officials had rubber stamped their place in the Les James Challenge Cup final.

There was a neat ebb and flow early on but Redditch carried a greater threat with Bruce lobbing over the bar before Craig Mailins thumped over Billy Garvey’s driven centre from close range.

George Westwood’s half-volley bounced wide but within a minute, a Luke English corner was headed into the ground and past Villa keeper Chris Mole by Hatfield.

Borough were dealt a blow when Ollie Saunders had to be withdrawn but the second quickly arrived as Garvey burst through and drove into Mole’s chest with Bruce on hand to tap into the empty net.

Dean Hay’s bending low free-kick was pushed around the upright by Mole as half-time approached but Fairfield upped the ante early in the second half, albeit without convincing in the final third.

Collins ran at Garrath Hodgetts before unleashing a fierce shot that clipped the face of the crossbar on 54 minutes but the contest was all but ended on 61 minutes.

A half-cleared set-piece dropped to Hatfield on the edge of the penalty area with the skipper swivelling to hit a crisp strike that was too quick for Mole to reach.

At the other end, Peter Jenvey’s snap-shot across drew a fine low save from Ryan Young but the Borough stopper could do nothing to prevent Collins notching from 12 yards after Villa substitute Alex Dugmore was unceremoniously upended by Hodgetts.
