MANAGER Julian Workman hailed Redditch Borough’s rapid response following Saturday’s 2-0 triumph at table-toppers Droitwich.

Workman had been left puzzled by Borough’s flat display against FC Stratford in the Les James Challenge Cup semi-final seven days previously and tasked his charges with upping the ante at Briar Mill.

They duly obliged as goals from Liam Fullerton and Garrath Hodgetts made it five league wins in a row against promotion-chasing Spa.

“I couldn’t have asked for more,” said Workman. “I haven’t had much cause for complaint this season, the boys have done us and themselves proud in our first season at this level.

“In a way, that added to the frustration over the cup game but all we could do was move on and concentrate on the next fixture.

“We knew it would be tough at Droitwich, the league table never lies but we also knew the lads would be fired up. The biggest thing we wanted was a performance and we certainly got that.

“Not only have we won five on the bounce in the league but we have kept four clean sheets in a row now as well.

“It proved the previous week was a one off. Okay, it came at a bad time but at least we quickly showed our true colours again with a very good win.”

Meanwhile, Borough still await confirmation from the Midland Football League over their Les James Challenge Cup destiny.

Opponents FC Stratford, who won a penalty shoot-out following a 3-3 draw, publicly admitted to fielding an ineligible player but the official verdict from competition chiefs has yet to land.

After Tuesday’s trip to fourth-placed Paget in Midland League Division Two, Borough host backmarkers Continental Star on Saturday (3pm).
