REDDITCH United slumped to their seventh successive defeat with a late loss against relegation-threatened Cambridge City.

The Reds surrendered the advantage as ten-man City hit back to win 2-1 at the Valley last Saturday.

Charlie Morris had handed them a lead but Cambridge struck through Ben Robinson and sub Goldy Capela despite having Salim Relizani sent off.

United boss Darren Byfield admits he is now desperate for his side to end their nine-game winless run.

He said: "We were doing fine approaching the hour mark and were leading 1-0. They then had a man sent off and that just seemed to help them more than us.

"Donnell Benjamin was injured in the challenge for the red card and it affected our shape.

"I think the nerves also set in because we were winning and getting close to ending our poor run. We haven't managed the game well from then on.

"We conceded an unlucky goal when an attempted cross went in and we started to feel that things were against us. That gave them the lift to go on and get the winner.

"It really is a terrible run at the moment but we can't keep feeling sorry for ourselves. We need a win as soon as possible."

Byfield will be hoping that comes this Saturday when they go to basement boys Cinderford Town.

"It is a massive game for us now," added the manager. "It's going to be hard but we have to stand up and be counted and be ready for the fight.

"We are playing teams around the bottom of the table but it means they are fighting for their lives and we have to match them if we want to win. I think we did that on Saturday against Cambridge before we let it slip and will need to do it again."

Byfield says he will be looking to bring two or three fresh faces to the Valley this week in the hoping of handing his squad the lift it needs.

The only injury concern is Benjamin, who will have his ankle assessed ahead of the clash.
