REDDITCH Borough boss Julian Workman cannot wait to call upon the services of sought-after keeper Ryan Young after an extended spell on the sidelines.

Young, 21, had been set to serve the final match of his suspension at the weekend but Borough’s Midland Two trip to Bloxwich Town – the first of a planned double header – was scuppered by the weather.

The stopper, who has attracted interest from Southern League clubs, must now sit out Saturday’s home clash with the Walsall-based outfit (3pm) before making a welcome return.

“He has been a stalwart and a real asset,” said Workman of his protege between the sticks.

“Ryan is one of the top keepers in the Midland League and has improved week by week through hard work and dedication.

“Goalkeepers tend to mature with age so he has plenty of potential for further development. His progress has been recognised by a lot of clubs locally, including Bishop’s Cleeve in the Southern League.

“He might be creating a lot of interest but it speaks volumes for his character that he decided to stick with us. It will be nice to see him back because he hates not playing."

Young’s absence aside, Workman anticipates having a full squad to choose from against Bloxwich, who will now host Borough in the reverse fixture a week later on Saturday, February 11.

On Sunday, Borough’s ladies host top-of-the-table Stourbridge United on Terry’s Field (2pm) in the Birmingham County Women’s League Division One.
