TOP of the table Alcester took time off from their league campaign to claim a narrow 15-13 success over visiting Birmingham Medics.
The annual fixture always provides everything that is good about rugby and a youthful Medics side, backed by a large and vocal travelling support led 3-0 at half time.
But in a distinct game of two halves, Alcester dominated the final 40 minutes.
Will Silk switched from full back to scrum half, which enabled him to run in two tries wide out after winger Jake Grainger marked his return following a year long injury with the opening score.
Alcester controlled the game up front thanks largely to the efforts of No.8 Phil Birks and prop Sam Lear. Alcester will want more of the same this Saturday when they travel to fourth-placed Coventry Welsh in a Midlands Four West South match.
Welsh, who play in the Holbrooks area of Coventry, will be out for revenge after Alcester snatched a narrow victory over them earlier in the season. Kick-off at Burbages Lane is set for 2.15pm.
