BULLISH boss Julian Workman wants Redditch Borough to target a top-four finish after Saturday’s derby demolition of Earlswood.

Courtney Sowe and Garrath Hodgetts struck to turn an early deficit into a half-time lead before goals from Luke English, Liam Fullerton, Steve Joynes and substitute George Westwood inspired a 6-2 victory.

The result ended a run of three defeats in all competitions and saw Workman’s charges reclaim fifth spot in Midland League Division Two but the manager wants more.

“I would like to finish in the top four, I think that would be good progress considering this is our first season at this level,” said Workman.

“The lads have adapted well and learned a lot about the little things you need to do to keep winning games after promotion. Hopefully we can finish with a flourish.”

On the match, he added: “There could have been no more than three minutes on the clock when we went a goal down but fair play to the lads, they didn’t panic and absolutely dominated the game.

“We could have scored 10 or 12, we had shot after shot and that was made possible by everyone contributing to a great team performance.

“While it was great to see the lads scoring so many goals and being so fluent going forward, it was disappointing to concede twice because the way we played was deserving of a bigger margin.”

Borough head to mid-table Bloxwich Town on Saturday (2.30) for the first of a double header which sees the reverse fixture take place seven days later.

“It is a tough place to go,” added Workman. “We have never won there but a result would put us right in the hunt to hit our targets for the rest of the season.”
