ALCESTER continued their charge towards the Midlands 4 West South title with a close run 13-3 success over Coventrians, stretching their winning spree to 12 league games in the process.

It was Coventrians who had the better of early exchanges and broke through Alcester's defence on three occasions, only to waste each opportunity.

Coventrians finally took the lead with a penalty and looked to have increased their advantage further when their winger was involved in a race to to the try line with Alcester full back Will Silk.

The referee ruled Silk had got his hand to the ball first despite vehement protests from Coventrians players and supporters.

Alcester took the lead against the run of play when hooker Tom Harris found Phil Birks at the line-out which resulted in a drive for the Coventrians line from 15 yards out.

As the Alcester pack advanced, Coventrians defence splintered enabling the drive to go over the line with Harris in possession.

Max Biltcliffe missed the conversion as Alcester turned round 5-3 in front.

The second half saw Coventrians start to concede penalties which eventually resulted in a yellow card.

While Coventrians were down to 14 players, Alcester struck with replacement loose head prop Kyran Flynn forcing his way over for a second try.

Biltcliffe hit the upright with his conversion attempt but had more luck with a penalty shot that went over off the post.

Coventrians came on strong in the closing stages and came desperately close to scoring but were held up after crossing the line.

Alcester travel to Coventry Welsh for their next league fixture.

Alcester's second XV teamed up with players from Wellesbourne to crush Coventrians seconds 58-7.
