BOSS Darren Byfield says forward reinforcements are top of his wish list as he continues to rebuild his Redditch United squad.

Danico Johnson, Reece Hales and Simeon Colbourne all left the club last week, meaning 17-year-old Shuja Mahmood had to take his place on the bench as a back up striker.

Jim Mutton did make a return to the club and fellow midfielder Charlie Morris linked up on loan from Solihull Moors.

However, Reds continued their poor form as they lost 2-0 at home to Biggleswade Town last Saturday, leaving Byfield in the hunt for more firepower.

He said: "I think we played very well and certainly didn't look like a side that was short on confidence, which was a big positive and shows a lot about the character of the group.

"We just needed to take one of the chances we created and it could have been a different game.

"I'm still looking for new signings and I know exactly what we need. It is just about getting the right people in.

"The one area I'm definitely looking at is up front. We do need one or two more strikers at the club.

"I know some people will point to the fact that we let Danico (Johnson) go but that just wasn't working out. I had no problem putting Shuja Mahmood on the bench because he has a lot of potential and he is someone we want to work with and develop moving forwards.

"We also want to show the young players at this club that there is a pathway to the first team and he's an example of that."

Byfield says he understands the fans' frustrations at recent results but underlined the fact he's still in the process of creating a side that can challenge for promotion next season.

He added: "The fans were getting behind us on Saturday so hopefully we were doing something right. I do think that as long as they see we are creating chances and attacking teams then they will back us.

"I understand their frustration because they were used to challenging at the top of the league last season. I just need them to understand this is my first season and I'm in the porcess of building a side that will be a real force, it is just going to take time.

"The challenge now is just to finish as high as we can, develop and then look to next year.

"I have already learned so much in the last six months and really do understand what we need."

United will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to fellow mid-table side Dunstable Town this Saturday.
