THREE of Redditch United's top players are on the radar of League Two side Grimsby Town.

Defenders Jordan Brown, Jordan Cullinane-Liburd and Jhai Dillon are all set for a trial with the Mariners tomorrow.

Town chief Marcus Bignot, who used to manage Solihull Moors, has shown an interest in the trio and Redditch boss Darren Byfield admits he is happy for them to have a chance to show what they can do.

"The fact Grimsby have show an interest is proof we are doing something right here at Redditch," he said.

"I have said all along we have the best back four in the division and it's great they have the opportunity of a trial at Grimsby.

"We obviously wouldn't want to lose them but I also wouldn't want to stand in their way."

All three should be available to play for the Reds in this Saturday's trip to sixth-placed Frome Town.

The clash will give United the chance to cut the gap to the Southern Premier League's play-off places following three successive draws.

Byfield added: "We want to close the gap on those above us and get back to winning ways.

"I have never said that the play-offs are our aim because we just want to keep winning games, picking up points and to see where that takes us.

"The remit this season was all about consolidating and building a side that can develop and be really strong next season."

Gurjit Singh’s last-gasp goal saw Reds snatch an unlikely point from a flat performance against King's Lynn last Saturday.

Byfield made two changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Banbury United on Boxing Day. Duane Courtney donned the captain’s armband with Reece Hales also lining up in place of Eli Bako and the departed Ahmed Ali.

United looked out of sorts but crucially only conceded from Toby Hilliard’s smart turn and shot with 76 minutes played before scrambling home an equaliser in the fourth minute of injury time.

Byfield said: "It wasn't our greatest performance but we showed the character and the will to stay in the game."

He also said he has now made a host of approaches for new players as he looks to boost his options.
