GOALDEN Gareth Evans netted five times as Studley hit fellow strugglers Southam United with six of the best in Midland League Division One this week.

Southam had no answer to Evans' scoring prowess as he powered home a hat-trick in the space of seven minutes and also struck the post for good measure.

Studley boss Keith Draper said: "It was a perfect hat-trick, scoring with his left foot, right foot and then a header."

Draper drafted in new signings Jack Moss and Remmel Johnson and the pair proved a tower of strength as Southam were put to the sword.

Mathew Ross rifled home Studley's sixth goal with the only downside being the fact Southam were able to snatch a late consolation goal in the 6-1 scoreline.

Draper added: "The defenders were a bit down afterwards, because they were desperate to keep a clean sheet.

"But the result was no more than we deserved. We should have got something out of our two previous games with Leicester Road and Heath Hayes.

"Now the players realise we have to keep battling. We're under no illusions and not getting carried away because Southam are in the same situation as we find ourselves in.

"We're fighting for our lives against relegation but at least we look more like a team now."

Draper will attempt to bring full back Dan Povey back to the club this week after serving Coventry Copsewood with seven days.

He has also enlisted the help of coach and former Kidderminster Harriers striker Kim Casey.

Studley host Leicestershire side Heath St Johns this Saturday when they will be looking to avenge a recent 4-3 defeat.
