REDDITCH United manager Darren Byfield has praised the character of his players after their win over Weymouth.

The Reds secured a 2-1 victory as they returned to winning ways following back-to-back 4-1 defeats.

United had lost against St Neots before falling to the same scoreline against Ramsbottom United in the FA Trophy.

However, they came from behind to beat Weymouth to the delight of their boss.

Byfield said: "I thought my boys were superb. To lose 4-1 twice was tough but they have shown great character to bounce back from that.

"Weymouth had the better chances but we controlled the ball really well but just lacked a bit of quality in the final third of the pitch at times.

"As soon as we went to two up front they struggled to live with us."

Simeon Cobourne endeared himself to the Valley Stadium faithful by netting the goal that turned Redditch’s clash with Weymouth on its head.

The frontman converted Jordan Jones’s teasing right-wing cross with 11 minutes to play to level the match on his home debut.

And within two minutes of getting back on terms, strike partner Danico Johnson fired in from 18 yards to swing the pendulum in United’s favour.

Byfield has been delighted with the impact of Cobourne and is excited by the potential partnership with his cousin Johnson.

He added: "Simeon has come in and is very keen to learn, which is exactly what we want.

"I have to mention Danico as well because he has been struggling with a knee injury but played 90 minutes against Weymouth. I was delighted he got his goal at the end.

"Hopefully they can form a good partnership. Being a striker myself hopefully I can help them progress, especially now we have the training slots all sorted on our home pitch."

United are set to take on Kettering Town away tonight before going to Chesham United this Saturday.

"It was a good win against Weymouth but we have been here before," added Byfield.

"We now need to try and build some more momentum again."

Byfield says he is now looking to bring in two more forwards to boost his options ahead of the weekend.

The Reds will be without the injured Reece Hales after he injured his ankle after a poor challenge last Saturday. Ahmed Ali is also struggling with an ankle injury.
