REDDITCH United boss Darren Byfield says he won't be afraid to wield the axe should his players continue to fall short of his expectations.

The manager issued the ultimatum following their recent defeat against St Neots and has made sure the team knows exactly what is needed if they are to keep their shirts this season.

Byfield explained: "Sometimes I think the players think that I get over a defeat very quickly, but I'm still angry about the loss to St Neots.

"It's time for us to start picking up league points very quickly because it is easy to get cut adrift from those above you.

"I've told the players exactly what I require of them and that if it means I have to change the players to get that then I will.

"We don't have the right to beat anyone but we turned up against St Neots as though that was the case. I won't have that.

"We do have players that are consistently playing well for us and I won't have the others letting them down each week.

"They know where I stand on the matter and If it doesn't register now then it never will.

"I don't mind if someone gives the ball away, I don't mind if they miss a chance and I don't mind if they make the occasional mistake, but I won't have them failing to give 100 per cent.

"They can do that somewhere else because they won't do it for one of my teams."

The Reds' FA Trophy clash at Ramsbottom is due to take place tonight after Saturday's original fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

United have now been handed the incentive of a clash with AFC Telford in the third qualifying round should they progress.

They will then host Weymouth at the Valley Stadium this Saturday (3pm kick-off) as they look to return to winning ways in the Southern Premier League.

Byfield strengthened his squad this week with the arrival of striker Simeon Cobourne from Solihull Moors. He joins the recent addition of Bromsgrove Sporting midfielder Ahamid Ali.
