REDDITCH'S Andy Robinson will implore Lee Markham to take his best shot when they clash for the English middleweight title later this month.

‘D’Animal’ enters the lion’s den of the Brentwood Leisure Centre in Essex to challenge for Markham’s crown on Friday, November 25.

The BoxNation cameras will be rolling live, with Frank Warren’s fighting champion enjoying the home show advantage.

But hitting the road is nothing new to Brummie Robinson, who lives in Redditch. He graduated from Dudley’s Lions Boxing Club as an amateur.

The 32-year-old now has 20 pro contests under his belt and has only ever been beaten twice, both on points away from home.

Frank Buglioni remains the only man to put him on the floor, with Robinson climbing off the canvas to last the distance before going down on the cards for the WBO European title.

In his last contest, Robinson travelled to Rotherham and lost on a split decision to Sam Sheedy, with each judge having them no more than a round apart in the contest.

The Buglioni brawl was watched by BoxNation viewers and Robinson is again promising to put on a show for spectators.

He said: “That’s what I do, I give the fans entertainment. I’m one of the best middleweights in the country and I’ve got an iron chin.

“I’ll never give up, so he can hit me with anything he wants. Everyone can be knocked out, but it’s going to take one hell of a shot to stop me.

“I’ve been in the away corner before, so I know what to expect. I do it this time with more experience and that gives me confidence.

“I’ve lost twice but Markham’s got three defeats on his record, so I consider him beatable. No one is going to do me any favours, I know that, so I’ll help myself.”

Robinson is adamant his hand should have been raised against Sheedy, after what was a 10-round eliminator for the British and Commonwealth titles.

Sheedy has gone on to secure a fight for both belts against another Brummie, Tommy Langford, the night after Robinson’s battle with Markham.

Langford has become an enemy of Robinson, who is determined to settle the score in the ring for what would be another Battle of Birmingham.

He continued: “Langford has made comments where he’s disrespected me. He claims he’s the best middleweight in Britain - he’s not even the best in Birmingham.

“If he wants to prove it, he’s got to fight me. I don’t think anyone should take what he says seriously until he’s done that.

“I beat Sheedy that night, he knows that and so does everyone else who was there. I knew I wouldn’t win unless I got him out of there, though.

“I’ve no axe to grind with him, in fact we’ve sent messages to each other talking about the fights we’ve got coming up.

“He’s all wrong for Langford and I think Sheedy will beat him. He’s slippy, smart and will be the harder to pin down.

“They are both stand up boxers and Langford is clever, but he can switch off and Sheedy is a better counter puncher.

“I think Sheedy is going to shock everybody and so am I. Come November 27, they will be talking about him and me for the British title - not Langford and Markham.”
