ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long is on the lookout for a leader after watching his side let slip against Walsall Wood this week in the Midland League Premier.

New signing Danny Dubidats fired the Church in front but Wood hit back through late goals from Drew Alton and Karl Edwards to clinch a 2-1 victory.

Long said:"I'm looking to bring in a leader who can pull us together on the pitch. Everytime we concede a goal we seem to fall apart.

"We dominated for the first hour and looked much the better side. then we let a goal in and suddenly we look fragile. We lack leadership on the pitch.

"At the moment we're not living up to expectations and its the first time as a manager that I suddenly find myself under a bit of pressure - but that's a challenge I look forward too."

Long has parted company with central defender Luke Paskin but has praised the player's contribution and said: "We've been together for three years and lifted five trophies, especially during our time together at Tividale and I want to thank him for the time he has spent with us. It wasn't an easy decision to make and I want to wish him well for the future."

Long has also lost wideman Mike McGrath, the former Kidderminster Harriers and Redditch United player having joined last season's champions Hereford.

Long confirmed: "It all happened very quickly, but I can understand the attraction of playing for Hereford in front of huge crowds.

"We've got to pick ourselves up and be counted. A couple of wins and things will start will look a great deal differently, but I won't be afraid to ring the changes if that's what's required."

The Church are due to face Shawbury United tonight (Tuesday) and then entertain high flying Sporting Khalsa on Saturday.
