MANAGER Darren Byfield is determined to make it a victorious Valley Stadium return for Redditch United.

The Reds will finally play their first home game this season after the completion of a £900,000 ground renovation.

A major overhaul has seen new changing rooms, an update of the main stand and facilities as well as new floodlights, plumbing and electrical wiring installed.

United will now welcome second-placed Slough Town for the curtain-raiser this Saturday (3pm kick-off) and Byfield is eager to turn the revamped site into a fortress.

He said: "Everyone is really looking forward to playing our first game back at the Valley. It will give the players a chance to build a relationship with the fans.

"Home form is very important throughout a long season and hopefully we can make it a place that teams don't look forward to visiting.

"It will be great having new changing rooms and the other facilities.

"It should also be a good game for the fans because Slough are flying at the moment and have had a good start to the season.

"It would be the perfect game to start with a win and would help us build on a good start to the season."

Byfield is keen for his side to forget about last Saturday's disappointing FA Cup exit at Coalville.

The Reds lost 2-1 as they failed to build on Clayton McDonald's strike.

Byfield added: "It is disappointing to get knocked out of the cup but it just wasn't meant to be.

"We would have liked a cup run but all we can do is move on quickly and don't let it overshadow what has been a good start to the season.

"The squad is strong now and the players are getting a much better understanding. We have tried a few different formations and they have shown they are capable of adapting to that."

United will follow up the Slough clash with a trip to third-placed Leamington next Tuesday.

"The next two games are big for us," added the boss. "If we can get two good results it will show we are ready to push on.

"We really don't fear anyone and I know we have a good enough squad that can continue to improve."

The Reds will be boosted by the return of striker Michael Taylor and defender Nat Kelly this Saturday.
