ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long is hoping his side can build an unbeaten run after recording back-to-back wins over the Bank Holiday in the Midlands Football Premier.

The Lye Meadow side recorded their first victories in the league on as they saw off Long Eaton last Saturday 5-2 and then followed that up with a 3-0 victory at Highgate United.

It means Church have eight points after five matches and are placed eighth in the table.

But they have to wait to build on those wins as they have a free weekend due to their exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Hereford last week.

The club’s hopes of rearranging league clashes against Stourport and Tividale fell through and their next fixture is at Westfields on Wednesday.

Long said: “It was important that we got off the mark at last in the league and I would love us to go on a run now.

“I am disappointed we haven’t been able to organise another game because we’ve got over a week to the next one and I want us to build on this.”

Josh March bagged a brace on Saturday to sink Long Eaton, who also had two players sent off near the end of the match, while Jordan Nadat, Zack Foster and Tom Turton also hit the back of the net.

March added two more goals on Monday and Jamie Spencer came off the bench to add a third for Alvechurch.

Long singled out Foster and March for special praise because of their good start to the season, although the duo are set to start three-match bans after being sent off against St Andrews.

Long added: “Josh March and Zack Foster have been excellent for us so far, they’ve been our best players.

“Josh is scoring goals but Zack’s deliveries are setting almost all of them up.

“It’s a shame they are suspended for the next three games.”

Alvechurch have also in an approach for Coleshill left-back Josh Quaynor and Long was set to speak with him with this week after the club waived the seven-day waiting period.

l In Division One, Studley suffered contrasting emotions over the Bank Holiday weekend.

They started with a 4-1 home loss to Bolehall Swifts and then drew 2-2 with Cadbury.

The Bees are away to Chelmsley Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
