IT WAS another successful week for Alcester Bowling Club as their teams notched up five wins out of seven.

In Division Six of the S&W Birmingham Over-60s League the A team clinched promotion with a huge win at the expense of hosts Co-Op B.

All six players produced winning cards, with Jean Bannister (21-6) and Ken Harvey (21-9) outstanding.

Other winners were Renny Bannister (21-11), John Slater (21-12), David Whittington (21-14) and Ken Craddock (21-15), giving Alcester a 12 points to nil victory by 59 shots.

The B side are still top of Division Seven after an 11-shot home win against Moorpool B.

Margaret D’Elia was in superb form won 21-8. David Hodgson (21-10), Jean Craddock (21-12) and Red Masterson (21-18) also starred.

A crushing victory came Alcester’s way in Division 2 of the Yardley Wood Superleague, as the B team produced the Club’s biggest win of the week in a 66 shot success against visitor’s Alcester B hammered Tanworth B by 66 shots.

In merciless form were Winners were John Alderson, Ken Harvey (both 21-4) and Jean Bannister (21-5), backed up by Ken Craddock (21-10), Renny Bannister (21-14) and David Whittington (21-17). The 32 points to the visitor’s six lifts Alcester move up to second second place in Division Two of the Yardley Wood Superleague.

In Division Four the B team fell to a 20-shot defeat at Henley B. Only Margaret D’Elia (21-10), Rick Horton (21-13) and Gill Evans (21-20) won.

Although they gained just nine points to the hosts 30, Alcester hold on to third place, still with a chance of promotion.

Alcester’s A team saw off Moseley Cricket Club A by 44 shots in a home clash in Division Two of the Heart of England League.last week with a 44 shot success in the return game at Alcester Excellent cards from John Slater (21-8) and Ken Harvey (21-9), backed up by Dave Hovell (21-13), Jean Bannister (21-16) and Ken Craddock (21-20), gave the hosts 15 points to the visitors’ three, sending Alcester top.

The club’s second defeat of the week occurred In Division Four the B team lost by 26 shots at Ye Olde Knowle B. Val McDermott (21-14), Carole Slater and David Sutor (both 21-17) won, giving Alcester just 3 points to the hosts 15.

In Division Five of the Heart of England Over-60s league, Alcester B picked up a very creditable win by nine shots on their visit to won by nine sots at Woodlands A.

This was largely due to a 21-1 win for captain John Willis, well supported by David Hodgson (21-14), Margaret D’Elia and Geoff Spiers (both 21-19). Despite a 14-2 victory, Alcester drop to second but are very much in the promotion race.

The final action of the week saw the finals of club’s season-long domestic competitions.

In the Over-60s David Hughes Trophy, Ken Harvey beat Renny Bannister. In the Club Championship Ken again won, beating Ken Craddock.
