STEVE Adshead hit 200 runs to bag Astwood Bank’s first-ever double century in the Birmingham League but they had to settle for a draw against Aston Manor in Division Three.

Bank’s captain produced the goods in style as the home side made 368-6 in 55 overs, with Ryan Blakemore (77) and Tom Underhill (46) getting among the runs.

But on a pitch more suited to batting and despite the valiant efforts of Bank’s bowling attack, Aston Manor reached 251-8 in reply.

Thomas Harris took four wickets for the home side, while Dan Taylor chipped in with two, but Manor opener Byron Wyngard ensured his side a share of the spoils with 116 runs off 125 balls.

Adshead was quick to praise the team effort as they nearly got a result on a thankless wicket.

He said: “We knew that we had get a big score on a flat wicket and we did so.

“I thought our bowlers did extremely well to get them eight down, considering the wicket did not really help at all.

“We missed a couple of catches on the lad who scored the century but overall we fielded well.”

Astwood sit third in the table and remain in the promotion hunt.

They go to Handsworth on Saturday (noon start).

Adshead said: “We’ve got seven days left and we’ve got to play the teams around us like Pershore and Streetly, which means promotion is still in our own hands.”
