JAKE Price produced a fine display with the ball as Astwood Bank maintained their excellent form with a seven-wicket success against Newport.

The youngster led the way with impressive figures of 4-20 as Newport, who won the toss and opted to bat first, were dismissed for 148.

Thomas Harris (3-25) and Michael Desmond (2-32) also chipped in.

Tom Pedley (43) and Tom Underhill (50) were in excellent form as Bank cruised to 149-3 in 32 overs.

Captain Steve Adshead commented: “Jake Price was excellent and it’s another example of a different player in the squad stepping up and making a difference. The bowlers put us in a strong position and that took the pressure off the batsmen.”

With all the top four winning, Astwood remain fourth in the Birmingham League Division Three and are 12 points behind second-placed Pershore.

Bank take on relegation-battling Aston Manor at home on Saturday, with Andrzej Jagielski set to miss the clash.

Meanwhile, the skipper could be a doubt after injuring his calf.

He said: “This is such an interesting league. Because four teams go down it means there are very few dead rubbers.”
