REDDITCH HDA Men’s A team secured a Premier League spot in the South Warwickshire Summer League after winning Division One by 15 points.

The team won 12, drew one and lost one match throughout the season, finishing on 46 points.

The strong squad of players included Terry Iduitua, Tomas Cop, Ben Portman, Josh Yeng, Andrew Hanson, Lubo Smoliar, Tim Bradley, Felix Gill, Alex Maggs, Kevin Porter and Sam Hilpert-Smith.

Each fixture consisted of two doubles pairs playing two matches with four points up for grabs in each tie.

Redditch were consistent throughout the season finishing with 46 points, winning eight of their matches 4-0 including both home and away fixtures against Ardencote B, who finished in second place with 31 points.

This team have worked their way up the divisions over the last four years with a good squad of players to choose from.

HDA also have three other men’s teams in the lower divisions as well as two ladies teams and a mixed team in both summer and winter seasons.

The club will have two brand new floodlit courts which will be ready to play on in August, giving the club six tennis courts in total.

Two of their points came from walkovers as Claverdon were only able to turn out one pair and were docked a further point by the league.

In the remaining rubbers, Alcester’s Tim Kenneally and Pete Watson beat Andy Ashley and Sam Ward 6-0, 7-5, while Stuart Beach and Alex Woodbridge saw off Ashley and Ward 6-3, 6-1.

Ardencote dropped to third when only winning three rubbers against Studley.

Elsewhere in Division One, Alcester made it a five-team race for promotion when they beat relegated Studley and moved up to joint-second place. Inkberrow A stay second in Division Two after they also recorded a 4-0 win over fifth-placed Claverdon B. Studley C overtook FISSC after an invaluable 4-0 result over relegated Aston Cantlow.

The Division Three title race has seen a change again as Shipston A take over at the top with 36 points thanks to a decisive 4-0 victory over relegated Inkberrow C. Joint-second Alcester C could only draw 2-2 with fourth placed HDA B Redditch, while fifth-placed Claverdon C beat Inkberrow B 3-1.

Finally, in Division Five, champions Bidford-on-Avon A celebrated at home by thumping HDA D Team 4-0. Bidford B kept second place with a 4-0 bashing of Warwickshire County Council.
