BIDFORD-BASED Power Maxed Racing had mixed experiences at Croft in the latest round of the British Touring Car Championship.

The team recorded their highest qualification of the season but suffered at the hands of some robust on-track action.

Hunter Abbott suffered a fitful weekend, which started when Jake Hill collided into him in free practice.

But he found some speed in the second session and qualified seventh.

The speedster was in the leading pack early on but his race was ended when his Chevrolet was caught between Aaron Morgan and Rob Collard.

In race two, the Power Maxed racers Abbott and Kelvin Fletcher were far down the towards the back of the grid in 28th and 32nd places respectively.

But the duo worked hard with Abbott taking 19th spot and his teammate 22nd.

The rain started to fall just before the cars left the garage for race three, Power Maxed Racing opting for wet tyres as many in the field gambled on slicks.

Abbott madegood progress from his 19th place starting position and was locked in a battle for 13th with Jeff Smith, when the Honda man went into the side of the Power Maxed racer.

“It’s been a promising weekend, we had really great pace,” said Abbott “Our pace has been building since Thruxton, and we’ve been in the top five lap times at Thruxton, Oulton and Croft. On-track incidents have been the scourge of my season; I’m going to work on my sixth sense over the break.”

Meanwhile, Fletcher was forced to retire because of an issue with one of his rear doors.

He said: “Competing in my first ever wet race was an eye-opener, but it’s all valuable experience, and I am making progress.”

The championship breaks now until the end of July before returning at Snetterton.
