REDDITCH youngsters are being tempted to try their hand at tennis this summer.

Batchley based Redditch HDA tennis club are offering young children the chance to take part in a six week free coaching coach.

It's all part of an initiative by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to try and get more youngsters to take up the sport.

They want to see 10,000 children from throughout Great Britain playing tennis and have selected 1,000 coaches to run the programme from their respective clubs.

The programme proved so popular at Redditch HDA that they had to increase the number of courses from one to three, giving 30 local children the chance to play, each of which will receive a free tennis racket at the end of the course.

The programme has been driven and funded by the LTA following Great Britain's success in the Davis Cup and Redditch HDA 's head coach Tony Ravenscroft confirmed: "The children have been loving the sessions. It's a great way to introduce them to tennis and a great opportunity to show families what is on offer for all ages and abilities at the club."

These are exciting times at Redditch HDA who are in the process of creating two brand new courts, bringing the total at the club up to six, which will in turn give new and existing players more opportunity to play.

The club offers both social and competitive tennis for everyone all the year round in addition to a busy summer programme of activities.
