THERE was a New Year goal-fest in the Bromsgrove and District League’s only match on Sunday as Wychbold RBL defeated Bromsgrove United 8-6 in Division One.

With the heavy rain putting paid to the rest of the fixtures, it was left to United and RBL to entertain, and they didn’t disappoint.

Bromsgrove raced into a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes, the second goal a stunning volley from the edge of the area.

But Josh Weatherby took control and scored the first of his impressive five-goal haul from the penalty spot after he was brought down.

By half-time Wychbold led 4-2 as Bromsgrove’s defence collapsed.

In the second half, Wychbold assumed control, the scoreline getting to 8-6 after goal mayhem at both ends.

Weatherby completed his goalscoring haul, and there were further goals for Cieran Sheehan, Julian Triana and Josh Somers with a fine curling effort. For Bromsgrove, the goals came from Damian Blakeway (2), Brad Bullimore, James Halsall, Michael Harvey and Ashley Woodfield, once again highlighting their ability to score from all positions.
