AUSTIN Ex-Apprentices edged Continental Star in a seven-goal thriller to book their place in the BCFA Roger Wood Memorial Cup quarter-finals.
Andy Nicol bagged a hat-trick as Apprentices held their nerve.
The Redditch and South Warwickshire Combination League outfit took the lead after just 90 seconds with a good finish from Josh Westwood.
Continental levelled on 20 minutes just after Austin hit the post twice, but Andy Nicol chipped the keeper from a tight angle to put the latter 2-1 up, and then made it 3-1 from the penalty spot.
Within a minute of the restart, Continental made it 3-2 as the game see-sawed. Austin saw a penalty saved before Continental levelled.
But Nicol ensured Apprentices’ place in the next round when he completed his hat-trick.
On Saturday, January 16, VKL United FC will place Redolence Park at the Valley Stadium (7pm ko) to honour the memory of Vinay Kishor Ladwa.
