ALVECHURCH are aiming to maintain their recording breaking FA VAse run at Cleethorpes Town on Saturday, says manager Ian Long.

The Lye Meadow outfit face another away trip on Saturday (3pm ko) at the Bradley Community Station as they look to make the last 16 of the competition for the time time ever.

Standing in Alvechurch's way are a Cleethorpes side who have won five of their last six games in all competitions and are fourth in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

But Church, who have played five ties away from home in a row, are on a great run of form and unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions.

Long said: "We're away from home again but that might do us well because we've had a few matches at home called off.

"It's fantastic to have got this far but I would love to put our hat in round five, that would mean we're just four rounds away from Wembley.

"It's not going to be easy because Cleethorpes are on a good run but we're staying overnight to give us the best chance of progressing."

Jordan Nadat is cup-tied for the clash, while Josh March is set to serve a one-match ban, although Church are keeping their fingers crossed he will miss Wednesday's JW Hunt Cup clash at Bilston if it goes ahead (7.45pm ko).

The game was switched from Lye Meadow to Bilston because Church's home clash against Sporting Khalsa was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

That meant the second-placed team fell 15 points behind Midlands Premer leaders Hereford, who edged out AFC Wulfrunians 2-1.

Alvechurch have six games in hand over their title rivals but Long fears a packed fixture list.

He said: "We had a feeling that Saturday's game would be off but it didn't make it any easier to take.

"We had this situation when we won the league with Tividale and we were playing three games a week for six weeks.

"But we didn't have a side like Hereford going on a great run.

"But we'll be pushing them all the way and there's still a lot of games to be played.

"With Heanor losing again it looks as though it's between ourselves, Alvechurch and Khalsa."
