Kings Norton 12, Alcester 3

KINGS Norton produced a second half two-try salvo to sink Alcester in the Midlands Division Four West (South) on Saturday.

The visitors led 3-0 thanks to fly half Jamie Randall’s first half penalty kick, but two scores in the final quarter of the game secured victory for Kings Norton and left Alcester without even the consolation of a bonus point.

As the game wore on, Alcester were unable to contain King Norton’s pack and the home side took the lead from a rolling maul when Jay Rawling touched down and captain Shane Rees converted.

They then made the game safe with a second try by captain Rees from a short range scrum late in.

Alcester entertain unbeaten league leaders and old adversaries from Nuneaton, Manor Park, on Saturday for a 2.15pm kick off at King’s Coughton.

Meanwhile, Kings Norton take on Atherstone away (2.15pm ko) this weekend.

Alcester’s seconds travelled to national league side Stourbridge to take on their third team and two other sides in a four-way tournament of 20 minute games, played in a round robin format.

Travelling one player short, Alcester were able to borrow a second row forward and they won their first game against Stourbridge 5-0.

Skipper Rup Daffern was the match-winner with the only try. In Alcester’s second game they beat a Barbarians side 24-5, with Lewis Walker, Daffern and Alastair Hooper scoring tries.

Against Kidderminster thirds, they were edged out and settled for second in the tournament.

The under-16s lost 72-12 to Pershore.
