GREG Smith bagged a hat-trick of crown green bowls titles in the space of five days.

The Alvechurch 22-year-old became the first person since 1924 to win the Autumn Waterloo tournament in Blackpool and the Talbot Cup, which was staged at Raikes Hall.

Smith, who bowls for Worcester and Warwickshire County and West Brom Supports Club, then topped a memorable few days at the Midlands Masters at Haunchwood BC in Nuneaton.

Father Rob Smith said: “There are some very tough tournaments, but Greg was in good form.

“He’s already won several trophies earlier this year, but he was over the moon to win a hat-trick and scoop some prize money as well.”

The 107th Waterloo Cup was televised on ITV4 and Smith kicked-off by defeating Anthony Bracken in the last eight, before seeing off Lee Fletcher in the semi-finals.

But Smith became supreme champion after defeating fellow county player Ross Dunkley 21-19 in the final.

Several days later, there were 256 entries in the Talbot Cup, but he started with a 21-12 victory over Darren Naylor.

He edged out Darren Jones from Wales in the semi-final 21-20 and then sealed the silverware with a 21-7 success against Callum Wraight.

The gifted bowler put the finishing touches to a fantastic week in Warwickshire at the Midlands Masters when he reached the final and then got the better of Wayne Rogers 21-12.
