LAURA Dangerfield won bronze at the Heart Of England Championships at Walsall.
The Samurai Judo Club member was fighting well in the senior women’s section and reached the semi-final before finally being eliminated, although she had done well enough to earn the bronze.
Competing in the senior women in her usual under- 78kg weight category, Dangerfield faced three tough black belts on her way to the final, beating them all on the ground.
The final was the same story, with Dangerfield beating another third level black belt from Devon by maximum points on the ground to take the gold medal and gain her first points towards her fourth level black belt.
As this was a British ranking event, it also puts her into the senior women’s top 10 in the British ranking at both under-70 and under 78kgs.
The top 16 in each category qualify for the British Senior Championships at the end of the year.
