THE inquisition into Redditch’s dismal FA Cup display went on long after the fans had filed out of the picturesque Ravenstone Road ground.

While the handful of bemused travelling supporters drowned their sorrows and the Hinckley fans were toasting a cup upset , United’s players were sat out on the pitch trying to work out where it had all gone wrong.

Early exits from the cup are nothing new for the Reds – it is five years since their last win in the competition – but their capitulation against a mid-table side from Division One of the MFL was hard to take.

Skipper and star striker Danny Dubidat may have been scoring for fun in the league but against a side from three leagues lower he was left feeding off scraps.

The free-flowing midfield struggled for space and Hinckley’s two former Redditch frontmen, Jordan Nadat and Marco Adaggio, proved too hot to handle for the United back four.

The pair were involved in their side’s opening goal on ten minutes. Nadat had far too much time to get in a shot which United keeper Stuart Parsons pushed away only for the same player to pounce on the loose ball and squaring to the unmarked Adaggio to fire home.

Dubidat did have an opportunity to reply only to see his shot pushed onto the bar by home keeper Sam Arnold.

But the pick of the chances were created at the other end with Parsons saving well from Sean Williams after more good work from Adaggio.

Hinckley duly doubled their advantage nine minutes before the break when former Studley winger Williams dispossessed George Carline on the edge of the Redditch area and then drilled a low shot past the Reds keeper.

Robbie Bunn pulled one back on 41 minutes with a low shot through a crowded area and Dubidat was denied by a decent Arnold save early in the second half.

But for all their second half possession, clear Redditch chances were rare, a late Bunn effort that was cleared off the line offering a moment of hope.

Hinckley central defender Dominic Smith was sent off four minutes from the end after picking up a second booking but wayward finishing and poor passing ensured the home side took their place in the second qualifying round.
