DISAPPOINTED Redditch United manager Liam McDonald has urged his team to respond after their FA Cup upset at the hands of AFC Hinckley.

United suffered a giant-killing in the first qualifying round against the Midlands Division One side, three levels below the Reds, in Leicestershire.

Former Redditch United and Worcester hitman Marco Adaggio and winger Sean Williams fired the home side ahead at Heather St John’s home ground, before Williams bagged his second.Robbie Bunn pulled one back but Redditch missed a chance to play at Chasetown in the next round.

McDonald was bitterly disappointed with his players.

He said: “First of all I must give credit to Hinckley, they were the better team.

“We always prepare properly for games and I am my own worse critic but I was very disappointed with my players.

“Hinckley have some very good players but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t work as hard as the opposition.

“The players have apologised to me and as a club I would like to apologise to the fans who made the trip, it wasn’t good enough.

“I told the players this was a chance to go on a run and put the club in the spotlight but it hasn’t happened.”

The manager may well make changes for Saturday’s home clash against King’s Lynn in the Southern League Premier (3pm ko), and he is also set to try and bring in one or two new faces.

United, who are 12th in the table, then go to Slough Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).

The manager added: “We’ve got to put this result behind us.

“A win over King’s Lynn would help us move on and the players to bounce back.

“We may have Will Richards back and he’s one of our best players.”

McDonald also explained that midfielder Liam Spink joined Bromsgrove Sporting in a bid to find more regular first team football.

Meanwhile, due to our early exit in the FA Cup, United will now play Aylsebury at home in the Red Insure Cup on Saturday, September 26 (3pm ko).
