MIKE Davis came out top at the Arrow Championships angling match.

Following a cool night, and with the water very clear, the River Arrow around Alcester proved a difficult proposition for most of the 42 anglers taking part in this year’s match.

However some reasonable catches were made, and, in a close finish, top weight by just a few ounces went to Davis (Bordon Angling Centre).

Davis managed 12lb 13oz catch with caster and chopped worm fished on the pole proving to be the winning method.

Runner-up Sean Street was close behind on the Studley AS water at Wixford which left him just 6oz short of the winner’s total.

In third place Chris Coleman (Broom AC) landed 11lb 12oz.

Another Broom angler Mick Paddock took fourth spot, with Paul Caswell (Shakespeare) in fifth.

Section awards went to Dave Hemming with 6lb 6oz, Rob Street (1lb 5oz), Phill O’Donnell (3lb 2oz) and Paul Caswell.

Meanwhile, Dark Lane AC’s match on the river Arrow at Alcester on Saturday was won by Pete Lewis with 11lbs 8ozs.

He was followed in second by Barry Blewett (10lbs 14ozs) and third-placed Dave Gibbs (9lbs 6ozs).

The section winners were Glyn Blewett (8lbs 4ozs) and Tony Locket (4lbs 3ozs).

On Sunday, 18 anglers took part in the Needle AC match on the River Alne.

The in-form Phil O’ Donnell needed only 2lbs 9ozs to take top place, with Bob McKinley and George Wheeler joint second with 1lb 12ozs.
