LIAM McDonald took the positives from two draws in the space of three days as Redditch United's wait for a first win of the season in the Southern League Premier continued.

The Reds returned from Bedfordshire with a creditable 1-1 draw at early pacesetters Biggleswade, with Jordan Archer on target.

United followed that result up with a battling 2-2 draw with Hungerford at the Valley Stadium on Monday night.

Midfielders Jamey Osborne and George Carline were instrumental in the come back as they both hit the back of the net as United came from 2-0 down to draw level by half-time.

But while Redditch have not made the start he wanted, the manager is seeing signs of progress from a new-look team.

McDonald said: "The team is still very new and we're still getting used to playing with each other.

"I thought the draw with Hungerford was our best performance of the season so far, even if we had went into half-time trailing.

"We kept the ball well and attacking in numbers but there's still some way to go but we are working hard in training and we'll get there.

"What is most important for me is that the team plays with freedom.

"We're not scoring as many goals as we have done in previous seasons but that will come."

United have continued to bolster their squad by signing attack minded right-back Kyle Haynes from Worcester City.

Haynes joined City from Stourbridge near the end of last season but went to United on loan in order to play regular football.

But the defender then asked Worcester boss Carl Heeley if he could move permanently to Redditch.

McDonald said: "Kyle is a big upgrade on what we had last season and he's a very attacking player.

"We're delighted to have him here, he's a good player with a good attitude."

Redditch also drafted keeper Stuart Parsons, who had previously played for Alvechurch, after the deal to bring in Bristol goalkeeper Kieron Preston fell through.

United face another tough game at home on Saturday against Cambridge City (3pm ko).
