ALCESTER'S crown green bowling week began with another double success in the South and West Birmingham Over-60s League Division Seven.
The A team entertained Olton Tavern B and romped to a 76 shot victory, with all six Alcester players winning.
Not to be outdone, the B team visited Ye Olde Knowle D, and came away with a 34 shot success.
Husband and wife pair Jean and Ken Craddock (21-5 and 21-7 respectively) produced excellent successes, with good support from Eric Allport (21-14), Christine Anderson and David Hodgson (both 21-19), to give Alcester 9 points and a comfortable mid table position.
The visit to Bourneville Social in Division One of the Yardley Wood League brought back to back defeats for Alcester’s A side, both by 35 shots and both yielding only two winning cards.
The two Kens, Harvey (21-13) and Craddock (21-16) gave the visitors just 2 points to further increase their relegation worries.
In the return, Division Three match against King George VI B, Alcester B again showed the visitors no mercy, recording a second successive triumph with all eight players returning winning cards.
Val McDermott (21-7) led the way, hotly pursued by Jean Craddock, David Hodgson and Jean Sherrington (all 21-8), Rick Horton (21-9), Margaret D’Elia (21-11). Trish Barry (21-15) and Gill Evans (21-18) completed this 84 shot rout.
In Division Two of the Heart of England League, Alcester A visited Black Horse A and produced an excellent performance to run out winners by 39 shots.
Ken Harvey led the way for the visitors with a superb 21-6 card, with good support from John Alderson (21-12), Carole Slater (21-14), and Renny and Jean Bannister and John Slater (all 21-15). With 16 points from this away success, Alcester reinforced their mid table position.
Division Four saw the B side completed the double over Black Horse their visitors with an excellent 40 shot win. Alcester’s six winners were Rick Horton (21-5), David Whittington (21-8), Val McDermott (21-12), Jean Sherrington and Red Masterson (both 21-17) and Margaret D’Elia (21-20).
In the over-60s section, Alcester A lost to Division One leaders Moseley CC, while the B side saw off Co-Op B by 24 points.
