THERE were mixed results for Alcester’s Crown Green bowling teams this week.

The gloom with which Alcester’s Crown Green bowling week started did not lift until midweek.

The undefeated start to the South and West Birmingham League Division Seven season by the A team came to an abrupt end at King George VI, when they suffered a narrow four-shot defeat to their hosts.

They had only two winning cards – Margaret D’Elia (21-10) and Ken Harvey (21-20), though Jean Sherrington (20-21), Jean Bannister and David Whitting-ton (both 19-21) all went close.

In the same Division, the B side entertained second-placed Triplex, who are in second place in the league table.

The strength of the visitors was very apparent as Alcester slumped to a 39-shot home defeat, with only Eric Allport (21-14) contributing a winning card. As a result of these two matches, Triplex, still undefeated, went ahead of Alcester A in the league table.

A third defeat of the week befell Alcester when they visited Weoley Castle for a Northfield League Division Three match. David Hodgson (21-20), John Alderson (21-17) and Dave Hovell (21-19) gave Alcester a good start, but three losing cards to single figures sealed Alcester’s fate.

Jean Bannister did produced the visitor’s best card with a 21-15 success, before Alcester went down by 38 shots.
