ASTWOOD Bank booked their place in the final 32 of the National Village Knockout Cup with a six-wicket win over Dumbleton.

The Sambourne Lane side won the Worcestershire final to progress to the competition's national stages for the second time in three years.

Bank were in charge from the start and dismissed Dumbleton for 129 in 30 overs.

Thomas Harris and Dan Thomas took three wickets each, while Andrzej Jagielski and Dan Taylor bagged two each.

Bank then reached the winning total with ease, with Alex Robinson (57no) and Joel Haslam (37no) guiding them to victory.

They now face Leicestershire-based Newtown Linford away on Sunday, June 28, in what is expected to be a tough clash.

Captain Steve Adshead said: "It's never easy going away in this competition because we're not use to travelling big distances.

"When we're at home, the village also comes out in force to support us and I am sure it will be the same for Newtown too."

If Astwood do win then their last 16 clash will be played at home.

Victory also ensured an otherwise soggy weekend finished on a positive note, after their Birmingham League Division Three clash against mid-table rivals Kings Heath was completely rained off.

Almost all the games in the region fell foul of wettest day of the summer so far.

Astwood go to Aston Manor in the league this weekend (noon start), with the whole team available.

Adshead commented: "It's never good when your game is called off but nothing has really changed in terms of league position."
