ALCESTER A continued their winning form in the South West Birmingham over-60s league with a fine win over Woodbourne B.
The victors had five wins out of six, with Margaret D’Elia (21-2), Jean Bannister (21-5), Renny Bannister (21-8), David Whittington (21-15) and John Slater (21-20) all tasting success. The B team did not fare so well at home to Woodlands, losing by 24 shots and only producing 1 winner, Christine Anderson 21-7.
In the Yardley Wood league the A team suffered a defeat to top of the league Hall Green A with only one winning card, Dave Hovell 21-16.
Thursday night in the Heart of England league saw the A team, against top of the league RSJC A, produce their game of the season so far with a resounding win having six winners to the visitor's two.
Both Renny Bannister and Ken Harvey 21-12, John Alderson 21-13, Peter Barber 21-17, Jean Bannister 21-18 and John Slater 21-20 all won.
The B team experienced a heavy defeat at the tricky Ye Olde Knowle green and only achieved one winning game, Red Masterson 21-20.
In the Heart of England over-60s League, the A team lost to Black Horse A, only producing one winning card, David Whittington with a superb performance, 21-6.
The B side had better fortune but and won all but one match.
There were successes for Red Masterson and Christine Anderson (21-13) and Cedric Robertshaw (21-14).
Tricia Barry bagged a remarkable win playing left-handed after breaking her right wrist at the start of the season. Susan Attwater also won 21-14.
