ANDREW Robinson described becoming Midlands super middleweight championship as the biggest moment in his career.

The 30-year-old clinched his first major title as a professional when defeated Ilkeston’s Prince Davies with a ninth round stoppage at the Wolverhampton Civic.

Robinson, nicknamed D’Animal, had been crown king of the Midlands twice as an amateur but said taking the title as a professional had put him in heaven.

He said: “I am over the moon, to win the Midlands title as a professional is the ultimate for me and I am in heaven.

“To see all my hard work and dedication pay off is amazing, it is still sinking in.

“It just just goes to show that if you put your mind to do and are dedicated, you can achieve anything.

“The fight was a war between two guys who really wanted to win.

“Prince’s defence was very good but I was getting through with body shots and I always felt I always landed the more telling blows.

“By the sixth round I could feel his guard was dropping and my shots were starting to have an affect.

“It was close though but I hit him with a big right hand he went down.

“The fans were amazing, they spurred me on and at the end I was just crying I was so happy to have won.”

Robinson and Davies were locked in a war of attrition, which the Redditch fighter happy to grind down his opponent before with a series of powerful shots.

But as the fight wore on Robinson got on top and a thumping right hand knocked down his opponent into the ninth before the referee stopped the fight.

While the being Midlands champion, Robinson will also ahead to the next challenge.

He has a host of options ahead of him, including the possibility of English or British title shots. One possibility is Robinson dropping down to middleweight and fighting for another Midlands title.

He said: “This is the dream for me and anything I do after is a bonus.

“I would love have a crack at a Commonwealth or European title but I will take a couple of weeks off before sitting down with my manager and seeing what the next step is.”
